I have always been intrigued by natural structures and the natural world. As a child I would spend countless hours exploring the world around me uncovering the many miniscule denizens of the outside word. I still spend as much time as possible scouring books and taking note of any interesting finds in the garden. I take inspiration from any and all wildlife be it a lowly woodlouse or a seed from some exotic orchid. I work almost exclusively in porcelain utilizing its fine grain to hold detail and its pliable nature to achieve a fluid line and organic curve. Porcelain also has a great durability and unmatchable surface quality that can very from silky smooth to hard and scaled. I use little to no coloration relying on shading and form combined with the tactile nature of porcelain to make a piece. The few colors I use are oxides applied to the porcelain under high heats to provide a permanent and hard wearing effect.
